How to: Change the scale of the category (X) axis of a 2-D chart.
Solution:
Select the 2-D chart, double-click on the category (X) axis, click the 'Scale' tab, and type appropriate values in the corresponding boxes.
1) Select the desired 2-D chart:
a) If the chart is embedded on the worksheet, double-click on the chart. (A striped border with handles appears around the chart.)
b) If the chart is on a separate chart sheet, click the tab for the chart sheet.
2) Double-click on the category (X) axis axis. (The Format Axis dialog box appears.)
3) Click 'Scale' tab.

4) Type the number where the value axis (y-axis) should cross the category axis in the 'Value(Y) Axis Crosses at Category Number' box.
5) Type how often the tick marks should be labeled in the 'Number of Categories between Tick-Mark Labels' box.
EXAMPLE: To label every tick mark, type '1' in the box. To label every other tick mark, type '2' in the box.
6) Type the desired number of categories included in each pair of tick marks in the 'Number of Categories between Tick Marks' box.
7) (Optional) Do one or more of the following:
a) Select the 'Value (Y) Axis Crosses Between Categories' check box to display the value axis in the middle of the category selected in Step 4).
b) Select the 'Categories in Reverse Order' check box to display the current categories in reverse order.
c) Select the 'Value (Y) Axis Crosses at Maximum Category' check box to have the value axis cross the category axis at the last category.
8) Click 'OK'.
